The base of SilikatColor consists of binders, silicate components, mineral fillers, pigments, and special additives. This gives the paint several advantages: it dries without tension, does not form a film on the surface, and does not retain moisture. As a result, façades "breathe" without compromising the protective layer. This openness to water vapor (μ approx. 40–60) makes the product especially suitable for restoration, conservation, and maintenance of historical and aged buildings.
Resistance to Weather Conditions
Baumit SilikatColor is designed to withstand the harsh conditions of the outdoor environment. The paint is weather-resistant, water-repellent (w2), resistant to UV rays and temperature fluctuations. Professional Application on Diverse Surfaces
This silicate paint is suitable for various types of mineral surfaces, including lime-cement and cement renders, concrete, old paints, and fillers with good adhesion. With some limitations, it can also be used on lime renders, but test surfaces are recommended in advance. It is not suitable for wood, metal, synthetic coatings, or lacquer-based surfaces. Before application, the substrate must be strong, clean, dry, and dust-free, with no traces of oils, mold, or salts.
Precise Preparation for Optimal Results
Proper substrate preparation is key to achieving a flawless and long-lasting result. Unevenly absorbent surfaces should be treated with Baumit MultiPrimer, and chalky areas – with SanovaPrimer. In case of biological contamination such as mold or algae, pre-treatment with FungoFluid is recommended. Cracked or eroded areas should be filled and reinforced before paint application.
Easy and Efficient Application
Baumit SilikatColor is easy to apply with a brush, roller, or suitable spray equipment. The first coat is diluted with 10–15% water and serves as a primer. After a minimum of 12 hours and under suitable weather conditions, the second coat is applied – either undiluted or with up to 5% added water. If necessary, a third coat can be applied, observing an interval of at least 4 hours between coats. For machine application (e.g., with airless spray systems), the paint is used undiluted with recommended nozzles and pressure settings.
Color Range and Visual Impact
Baumit SilikatColor can be tinted according to the Life color chart – in shades with numbers ending from 2 to 9, without additional symbols. This allows for expressive yet natural matte-finish colors (gloss level G3), which emphasize architectural lines and give buildings character and individuality.
