What Does Baumit Silicone Render Represent and Why Choose It for Our Project?
All Baumit renders are characterized by high quality, designed to meet the requirements of modern products for residential and corporate building facades. The main advantages of Baumit silicone render are what make it the preferred material for professional and hobby builders, namely: this external render is resistant to atmospheric influences, hydrophobic (repels liquids), vapor-permeable (breathable), stain-resistant, and, last but not least, easy to use.
As the name suggests, Baumit silicone render is intended for applying an external render that provides decoration and protection for facades. You will achieve the best results when applying it to old and new mineral surfaces (sand and cement), concrete surfaces, and mineral and organic bases in the EPS, XPS, XS 022, and Mineral systems of Baumit EWI.
The standard grain size of the Baumit silicone render is 1.5 mm, but it is also available in packaging with 2 mm or 3 mm grain size.
Baumit Silicone Render - Colors
Ready-to-use Baumit silicone renders are delivered pre-mixed in 25 kg buckets in a wide range of colors available in all color palettes for everyday life or with arbitrary numbers according to RAL.
Preparation and Application
The substrates must be solid, clean, dry, free from freezing, dust-free, and not water-repellent. Existing mineral-based coatings and paints must be well attached to the substrate, which can be confirmed by pull-off tests and/or cross-cut tests according to the instructions of Baumit.
Application of external render - SilikonTop is applied with a stainless steel trowel or fine spraying machine and is rubbed to the grain thickness to achieve full and even coverage. Then the surface is textured using a plastic float, moving with tight circular motions.
It must be applied systematically and continuously in complete sections.
Packaging, Health, and Safety
Each component of the Baumit system has its own data sheet for materials. If additional information is needed, please contact our sales technical department.
Technical Specifications:
Top Coat Plaster
A ready-to-use product, wet plaster for a thin layer. Silicone-based with a decorative finish, featuring a scratched or dragged grainy texture for both interior and exterior surfaces. Suitable for manual or machine application. A component of the Baumit external insulation systems EPS, XPS, XS 022, and Mineral.
Composition
Silicone resin and organic binders, mineral fillers, color pigments, additives, and water.
Properties
Resistant to atmospheric influences, hydrophobic, water vapor permeable, stain-resistant, easy to use.
Purpose
Application of an external render for decoration and protection of facades. Suitable for application on old and new mineral coatings, concrete surfaces, and mineral and organic bases in the EPS, XPS, XS 022, and Mineral systems of Baumit EWI.
Suitable Substrates:
- Main coatings on external wall insulation systems (see above)
- Lime and cement plasters, concrete
- Well-adhering mineral, silicate, and dispersion paints and coatings
- Organic base coatings (e.g., SilverFlex)
- Gypsum board (pre-treated with 2 coats of Baumit SperrGrund)
- Gypsum plasters
You can always consult Baumit experts for advice regarding other substrates and substrate preparation. Surfaces for application (except for the base coatings of Baumit SilverFlex) should always be prepared with a full and uniform layer of Baumit UniPrimer before applying SilikonTop, and after application, the facade render should be allowed to dry for 24 hours.
Mixing the Plaster
Baumit SilikonTop should be mixed well and slowly with an electric hand mixer. It should not be mixed with other painting materials. When necessary, a minimal amount of water (max. 1%) can be added to improve workability.
Additional Information
The air, material, and background temperature should be above +5°C during application and curing. Protect the facade from direct sunlight, rain, and strong wind (e.g., with scaffold nets). High humidity and low temperatures can significantly extend drying time.
Products from different batches should be mixed before application. The development of the color tone may be influenced by background conditions, temperature, and humidity level. Baumit SilikonTop is equipped with a basic level of protection against mold and fungal growth, achieving a preventive and inhibiting effect.
For projects in critical environments (e.g., areas with above-average humidity, rainfall, close proximity to water, plants, bushes, trees, and forests), we recommend an increased level of protection. Long-term eradication of algae and fungal growth cannot be guaranteed.
The sands used in Baumit facade plasters are natural products. Some of the grains may appear slightly darker by chance. This in no way represents a product quality issue but may present a slight optical distraction due to the natural properties of the raw materials.
Light reflection value lower than 25 should not be used for application on external wall insulation systems. Baumit SilikonTop should be allowed to dry for a minimum of 14 days (at +20°C and 60% relative humidity) before applying other coatings.
Protective Measures
Protect the eyes and skin, as well as surrounding areas, especially glass, ceramics, brick, natural stone, varnishes, and metals. Rinse off any splashes with plenty of water. Do not allow it to dry and harden. Clean tools and equipment thoroughly with water immediately after use.
Why Is Facade Plaster Important?
All buildings around us, whether tall or short, hospitals, shopping malls, hotels, offices, etc., would look almost the same without a facade.
The facade is the face or front structure of every building, and accordingly, adding the facade distinguishes one building from another, giving the structure a unique identity.
Most facades are built with materials other than concrete, such as glass, stone, marble, wood, etc. It can be safely said that the facade is the aesthetic element of a building. Along with maintaining the aesthetics of the structure, the installation or application of the facade also helps protect the underlying structure.
It is essential to know that the advantages of the facade extend beyond providing aesthetics and a good external appearance of the building. High-quality exterior facade plaster also provides thermal stability and sound insulation. Moreover, the facade protects key structural elements of the building from deterioration. The additional layer of the facade protects the underlying structure from adverse climatic changes.
Advantages of Baumit SilikonTop
The hydrophobic silicone facade coatings from Baumit protect your property's facade in various ways:
Baumit SilikonTop facade plaster is cost-effective and creates a super hydrophobic surface. The facade remains dry, and moisture cannot penetrate through the wall into the insulation of your home. This is a crucial aspect, especially if the house has insulation on the outer walls.
Thanks to its water-repellent properties, surfaces treated with Baumit self-clean. The beading effect, also known as the lotus effect, is appreciated immediately during rainy weather. Dirt, moss, algae, and lichens cannot adhere to the surface and are easily washed away by rain. The facade remains in perfect condition for many years.
Baumit SilikonTop Systems Have Excellent Breathability
The Baumit formula ensures naturally breathable facades, masonry, and roofs. Moisture easily escapes outward. Baumit facade coatings are microporous and are developed with a unique silicone resin formula that restructures the pores to block moisture. Moisture is prevented, but the wall remains breathable throughout.
Baumit SilikonTop facade coatings are available in a wide range of colors
The super hydrophobic coatings from Baumit are specially designed for the insulation of facades, brick walls, and mineral tiles. The excellent properties of Baumit SilikonTop have been recognized by many experts not only in Europe but also around the world.
Price of Baumit SilikonTop
When you are building the facade of a large building, the cost aspect is always crucial. This is why we strive to maintain low prices for Baumit silicone facade plaster, so that you can carry out your projects with a minimal budget while ensuring quality.
