Why Use Sheetrock Super Finish Green Cap
Wall putty is an integral part of building or renovating any house - it leaves a smooth, durable finish to admire for years to come.
Wall putty - what technique to use when?
Wall putty is a skilled job that requires careful application. By applying Knauf Super Finish green cap, you will give your walls a strong, smooth, and durable finish. Not only that, but a well-puttied room will help maintain old walls in good condition, provide a perfect base for painting, and contribute to sound insulation.
The type of wall and surface you are puttying will determine the putty you need and the application method to use. Putting putty on a new wall or on drywall will be different from putting putty directly on an old brick wall or an existing wall. If you're on a budget, check online for "Knauf super finish 25 kg price" to ensure you find the most affordable quality Knauf putty.
You can do any small putty job or "patching" based on "Do It Yourself," but it's best to leave complete walls and rooms to professionals. However, this doesn't mean you can't save money by preparing the area and cleaning old brickwork yourself.
Here's what to use depending on whether you're puttying walls in new construction or during a renovation project.
Wall Putty in New Construction
Putting putty on walls in a new house or an extension requires a different approach than a renovation project. In new construction, you can apply Knauf Super Finish green cap directly to drywall.
How to apply putty on a new wall?
First, the heads of drywall screws should be countersunk and filled with joint compound between the boards, taped with paper tape.
Metal corner beads must be used to ensure good coverage around external corners.
Apply a putty layer - all walls that will be puttied should receive a layer of sand and cement plaster, known as a scratch coat.
This should be allowed to harden and then scratched using a float with nails, in a circular motion, to ensure a stable bond for the next layer, which is applied while the first scratch coat is still slightly moist but before it has fully dried.
These two layers are used for "doubling" and filling any indentations or waves in the wall.
At this point, the plasterer needs to assess whether the putty has set sufficiently, and the putty layer is applied. It should be smooth and free of any signs of trowel marks or waves, as essentially this is the finished surface of the walls and ceilings in your new home.
Many new homes are not putted at all. Typically, these are internal walls or partitions, but sometimes the internal surfaces of external walls are just lined with drywall before being painted or papered - without putty.
Of course, the main reason for this is the cost, so you don't need to hire a plasterer. Instead, screw holes are filled, the gaps between the boards are covered with paper tape (matrix tape), and then with joint compound, and you can start.
Although this method is cheaper than putty, caution is required - if the drywall gets too wet, it becomes weak and it's easy to damage the paper surface of the drywall if you're not careful. You can best protect yourself from such risks by using quality Knauf green cap putty.
Wall Putty in an Existing Home or During a Renovation Project
When puttying walls during a renovation, there is often more preparation required to ensure that the older walls are ready for putty.
Prepare the room
Before you start puttying, it's a good idea to clean the room, cover the carpets, and anything that can't be removed from the room.
Your plasterer will need access to water, so try to provide access to a sink without causing a mess throughout your entire house.
Remove the old skirting boards before puttying - most professionals know that it's easier to putty up to 3-4 centimeters above the floor than to remove the skirting boards. However, if you want to keep your skirting boards in place, then most plasterers should be able to work around the existing skirting, although it takes time.
Prepare Your Walls
If you want your plasterer to apply a fresh skim coat to old walls with putty, you'll need to prepare your walls.
Any damaged and crumbling old putty will need to be removed from the walls before the brickwork underneath is cleaned.
Scrape off any old bits of wallpaper and apply adhesive, such as a diluted solution of PVA.
Apply a putty primer. Once dry, your plasterer can directly apply the skim coat.
Save Time and Money by Puttying on Drywall
When renovating, it's often easier to putty drywall than bare brickwork, as it only requires a skim coat - this is generally the most cost-effective option. Additionally, attaching drywall to bare walls by screwing it onto wooden battens means that insulation can be added if needed.
In other cases, drywall can be "glued" to the bare wall. This is where small sheets of drywall are glued to the wall using adhesive.
By cutting the drywall sheets to fit, you'll save time and money on your project. A hand saw or jigsaw can do the job.
You can even attach the drywall to the wall yourself. The easiest way to do this is to screw it directly to the wooden battens you've attached to the walls and ceilings - use drywall screws and make sure the screw heads are countersunk below the surface of the sheets.
The joints between the sheets should be covered with tape or mesh tape before the plasterer or you start the work.
This can be done most easily and beautifully with Knauf Sheetrock Green Cap Joint Compound, which you can find in our online store at a very affordable price.
