Knauf Gypsum Finish is a multifunctional plaster used to seal joints, cracks, and irregularities on various surfaces. The material is supplied as a dry gypsum mixture with polymer and plasticizing additives, which should be diluted with water.

Application Areas of Knauf Gypsum Finish Plaster

Plastering is an important stage of renovation that determines how smooth the final surface of the walls will be and how well the coatings will adhere to them. Typically, fine Knauf plaster is used to conceal and reinforce joints between gypsum boards or fiberboards. This procedure is performed in such a way that the plaster does not crack in the contact areas of the boards after the renovation is completed.

With high-quality Knauf gypsum plaster, you can repair existing holes, chips, and uneven walls. It can also be used to cover screw holes used to attach gypsum boards or fiberboards to the walls.

The composition of Knauf plaster is also used to create a continuous base coat on concrete, sheet, or plastered surfaces, attach gypsum boards to walls, and install panels and channels. All of these processes ultimately help prepare the surface of the walls for finishing and create a solid foundation for wallpapers, including heavy patterns or other types of coverings.

Advantages of Knauf Plasters

Durability - the material hardly contracts and, therefore, creates a monolithic, strong, and crack-resistant surface.

Versatility - Knauf Gips Finish can be used for standard joint treatment of gypsum boards, as well as for plastering, panel installation, and bonding various gypsum elements.

Economical - if the surface has no deep holes or chips, the product is used very economically.

Fast Drying - the composition sets in half an hour and dries completely in a few hours.

Long Shelf Life - in dry form, Knauf Gips Finish can be stored for up to a year without changing its properties, and it can be used multiple times after opening the package, provided it is stored correctly.

Environmentally Friendly - the natural gypsum-based material is non-toxic and safe for both people and the environment.

Of course, the very fast drying of the composition can be both an advantage and a drawback of the product. The residue from the solution's drying cannot be used anymore, meaning that you will need to prepare very small amounts of Knauf Gips Finish and use it as quickly as possible.

Additionally, the material cannot be applied in a layer thicker than 5 mm, so other materials will be needed for very deep holes in the walls.

Tools Needed for Working with Knauf Gypsum Finish

Working with Knauf gypsum plaster is similar to working with regular plaster. To work with it, you will need the following tools and materials:

  • A container for diluting the dry mixture - a bucket or a special stainless steel container.
  • A trowel or a drill with a mixer attachment for mixing the mixture.
  • Spatulas of various sizes for applying the plaster.
  • Paper reinforcing tape for strengthening the joints of the drywall.

Important! It's best to mix the Knauf plaster solution with a trowel, but a construction mixer should be used very carefully, as air bubbles may form in the mixture, reducing its lifespan.

Specific Preparation Instructions

  • Pour the powder into a container with liquid slowly and evenly across the surface. The ratio of liquid to the mixture is 0.8 liters: 1 kg.
  • It's better to pour the mixture from your hand's palm to distribute the powder evenly.
  • The powder should exceed the liquid level.
  • The mixture should be saturated with moisture for 3 minutes.
  • Stir the resulting solution. It's better to mix it manually or with a mixer but at a low speed.

Usage Characteristics

You should start plastering at the renovation stage when the "wet" work has already been completed. Otherwise, the gypsum material will start to absorb moisture from the air and may crack or deform after drying. The room temperature should be above +10°C but not exceed +30°C, and during work, the temperature and humidity should remain constant. This will help you avoid material distortion.

The dry Knauf Gypsum Finish composition should be diluted with non-hot water (from +5 to +30°C) according to the package instructions and mixed carefully with a trowel or a construction drill at a low speed. The result should be a mixture with the consistency of thick sour cream, which is convenient for application with a spatula.

The ready solution can be used within 30 minutes, as it will start to harden and become more difficult to work with after that time. It's not recommended to dilute the thickened mixture with water, as this will deteriorate its characteristics. Therefore, it's better to prepare a new batch if needed.

Before applying the plaster to the surface, it must be thoroughly cleaned of construction dust, primed, and left to dry well. This will improve the material's adhesion to the wall.

Continuous plastering of the walls is done in one stage, with the mixture applied in a thin layer (about 1–3 mm). Sealing joints between gypsum board surfaces is performed in two stages with paper reinforcing tape between the layers of Knauf Gypsum Finish plaster. After the mixture has completely dried, the surface can be sanded to correct imperfections and defects resulting from the application.
