Knauf plaster filler is a multifunctional filler used to seal joints, cracks, and irregularities on various types of surfaces. The material is delivered as a dry gypsum mixture with polymer and plasticizing additives, which need to be mixed with water.

Areas of Application for Knauf Gips Finish Filler

Filling is an important stage of renovation work, which determines how even the surface of the walls will ultimately be and how well the finish will adhere to them. In principle, Knauf fine filler is used to mask and reinforce joints between plasterboard sheets or gypsum fiberboard. This procedure is performed in such a way that, after the completion of the repair, the plaster in the contact areas of the panels does not crack.

With the help of quality Knauf plaster filler, you can repair existing holes, chips, and uneven walls, as well as hide traces of screws used to attach plasterboard sheets or gypsum fiberboard to the walls.

Moreover, the composition of Knauf filler is used to create a continuous base coat on concrete, sheet or plastered surfaces, to adhere plasterboard to walls, and to install tiles and channels. All of this ultimately helps to prepare the surface of the walls for finishing and create a solid foundation for wallpapers, including heavy patterns, or other types of coatings.

Advantages of Knauf Fillers

Durability - the material hardly shrinks and, therefore, creates a monolithic, strong, and crack-resistant coating.

Versatility - Gips Finish Knauf can be used for both standard processing of plasterboard joints and for plastering, panel mounting, and bonding various gypsum elements.

Economical - if the surface has no deep holes or chips, the product is used very economically.

Rapid Drying - the composition sets in half an hour and fully dries after a few hours.

Long Shelf Life - in dry form, Knauf Gips Finish composition can be stored for up to a year without changing its properties. When stored correctly, it can be used repeatedly after opening the packaging.

Environmentally Friendly - the natural gypsum-based material is non-toxic and safe for both people and the environment.

Of course, the very rapid drying of the composition can be both an advantage and a disadvantage of the product since the residue from the solution's drying cannot be used anymore. This means that you will have to prepare very small amounts of Knauf Gips Finish each time and use it as quickly as possible.

Also, the material cannot be applied in a layer of more than 5 mm, so other materials should be used for very deep holes in the walls.

Tools Required for Working with Knauf Fine Filler

Working with Knauf plaster filler is practically no different from using a regular one. To work, you will need the following tools and materials:

  • Container for diluting the dry mixture - a bucket or a special stainless steel container.
  • Trowel or a drill with a mixer attachment for mixing the composition.
  • Spatulas of various sizes for applying the filler.
  • Paper reinforcing tape to strengthen the joints of plasterboard.

Important! It is best to mix the Knauf plaster filler with a trowel, but the construction mixer should be used very carefully since air bubbles can form in the mixture, shortening the life of the solution.

Exact Preparation Instructions

  • The powder should be poured into a container with liquid slowly and evenly over the surface. The ratio of liquid to the mixture is 0.8 liters to 1 kg.
  • It is better to pour the mixture from the palm of your hand - this will allow you to distribute the powder evenly.
  • The powder should exceed the level of the liquid.
  • The composition must be moistened for 3 minutes.
  • Stir the resulting solution. It is better to mix it by hand or with a mixer, but at low speed.

Usage Characteristics

You need to start plastering at the stage of the renovation when the "wet" work has already been completed. Otherwise, the gypsum material will start to absorb moisture from the air, and after drying, it may crack or deform. The room temperature should be above +10°C but not more than +30°C, and during work, the temperature and humidity should be constant. This will also help you avoid material distortion.

The dry Knauf Gips Finish composition should be diluted with non-hot water (from +5 to +30°C), according to the instructions on the packaging, and carefully mixed with a trowel or a construction drill at low speed. The result should be a mixture with the consistency of thick sour cream, convenient for application with a spatula.

The ready solution can be used within 30 minutes because after that time, it will begin to harden, making it more difficult to work with. It is not recommended to dilute the thickened composition with water, as this will worsen its characteristics - so it is better to mix a new portion.

Before applying the filler to a given surface, it must be thoroughly cleaned of construction dust, primed, and left for a sufficient amount of time to dry well. This will improve the adhesion of the material to the wall.

Continuous wall plastering is done in one stage, with the composition applied in a thin layer (about 1-3 mm). Sealing the joints between plasterboard sheets is done in two stages with paper reinforcing tape between the layers of Knauf gypsum finish filler. After the mixture has completely dried, the surface can be sanded to correct any imperfections and defects resulting from application.
